When approaching any thick sand, stop, analyse the situation and decide what you must and can do to the obstacle.
Deflate the tyres to min 1.2bar, put your vehicle in 4 low gear, get momentum (20-30km /h) and drive through. (it is always good to have a speed (20 to 40km /h) before you went into thick sand. When very thick sand, you can put on the diff lock for better traction in the sand with all 4 wheels.
Always engage the 4×4 and diff lock when you are not using it any more (after the sand obstacle)
Remember if you deflated your vehicle tyres to pump it afterwards, before you go onto the normal road again, you will be issued with a small compressor pump, before leaving on your trip.
The biggest “trick” to go through any thick sand is to have enough momentum (speed) to pass the obstacle (depends on the length and sand thickness of the obstacle at least 30 to 50 km/h)
When approaching a flowing river, stop and walk through the river. Walk on the exact row and width of the front wheels. Then you can see if there are any holes or big stone in line with the wheels of the vehicle.
If you knees are under the water level do not went through the river. Your knee’s height is the maximum for the vehicle to pass through. If the level is to high wait until it is going down.
When it is clear and safe to cross the river, put the vehicle in 4 high and cross as fast as you can, because the river might getting stronger in a short period of time.
